The monsoon jacket is very lightweight with high quality material and zippers. The water and wind proofing is up to par with other big brand companies. An amazing bang for your buck purchase!
I like a hard shell for skiing, both as a "backup" for touring, and as a regular jacket for resort days. And this is perfect for that. Relatively lightweight, it still blocks strong winds, and it accommodates all kinds of different layers underneath. But it's not too loose/bulky, and the material is very comfortable and moves with you. Only slight con is the double zipper is a little finicky, but so are most I guess.
Lightweight- very versatile. Prob best attention to detail and material you can get at this price range, certainly punches above its weight
1 am lucky enough to live 30 minutes from their store in Boulder. I was waffling about with what size to get.
I was measuring as a large and sadly minimal reviews on fit. The two reviews I found contradicted themselves, one saying they bought true to size and could layer comfortably. The other saying size up if you want to layer. So let's settle this! I measured right in the middle of the large. I am 6'2" tall and medium build. I went to the store with my expected layers, shirt, Melanzana, and puffy jacket. Large was okay but slightly restrictive when reaching. It lifted the front enough to pull things up and show my belt.
Then tried the XL with the same layers and it was a little more loose and didn't lift. I then took my puffy off and kept my Melanzana on and fit was still roomy but not baggy. I hope this review helps a future buyer! After a few seasons I will do a long term review! I will say up front that the fit and finish on this jacket is very nice and I'm quite impressed that it doesn't sound like I'm a walking plastic bag.
I have MANY hard shell jackets, but this Monsoon shell is LIGHT YEARS better than any other I have. The materials and construction is like Ferrari quality, while the North Face jackets are like Chevrolet. Yes, I paid considerably more, but the materials and build quality differences far outweighs the cost. I'm sure that this jacket will last me the rest of my life, and the color is eye popping!

Measurement Guide:
1. SLEEVE: With the elbow slightly bent, measure from the center of the neck (vertebrae), Over the shoulder, along the outside of the arm, and down to the wrist bone
2. CHEST: Measure beneath the arms at the fullest circumference of the chest
3. WAIST: Measure around the narrowest part of the waist.
4. HIP: Measure around the widest part of the hip.
5. INSEAM: Measure the inside of your leg from the highest point down to the ankle or desired pant length.
Tips:
Find a soft tape measure and a helper.
If your sizes line up in two distinct different size categories for chest, waist, or sleeve, choose the larger size.
If your sizing is between two categories, size down for a slim fit and size up for a looser fit.
